Child support rightsDivorce separates the parents from each other but they still have certain responsibilities towards the child. Parents cannot shed their responsibilities towards their children. Child support right is meant for children so that they get the required financial support from their parents after divorce. When couple divorce each other they stay separately but still share the responsibility of the child. The child stays with the parent who has got the legal custody of the child. This means that the custodial parent takes care of the child’s basic needs. The non custodial parent however contributes to the financial expenditure of bringing up the child. In his growing years the child is totally dependent on the parents. However, it is not easy for a single parent to take care of all the financial needs of the child. Educational fee, medical fee, and other miscellaneous expenditures add to huge childcare cost. It is not possible for a person to take care of all the expenditures alone. This is the reason why child support needs to be paid. Child support is a regular payment made by the non custodial parent as his financial contribution towards the childcare cost. Child cost, also known as child maintenance is paid till the age of 18. No child support is paid after the child turns 18 or starts earning. Any child whose parents are separated or were never married for some reason has the right to receive child support from the distant parent. Many parents evade the responsibility of paying child support money and never contribute anything for the cause. There are a number of cases pending in the UK Family Court where either the parent has never paid child support, or stopped paying the money after a while. In many cases the amount is reduced, or not paid on a regular basis. In order to enforce child support the Government has formed the Child Support Agency (CSA) that provides a number of support related assistance. The agency helps divorcing couples decide how maintenance should be calculated, what should be the mode of payment, how long should the parent pay, and so on. People also approach CSA to fight for child Support Rights. For example Mary had a four year old girl. The child was born out of the living relationship of Mary and Sam. Mary separated from Sam when the baby was 2 years old. After separation she did not know the whereabouts of Sam. Since then she was taking care of the child by herself. Then one of her friends suggested her to approach CSA who could help her trace Sam and also ask him to pay child support. CSA can demand child support and also hold the person legally responsible for not paying the support if the case demands so. It is unethical on the part of the parents to run away from paying child support. It is one of the major responsibilities of the parent even of the child is no more staying with him. Child Support Rights must be made available to every child whose parents are divorced or separated due to some reason.
