How to be a Successful Single ParentAccording to a survey in October 2008, 26% of all families in UK are headed by single or lone parents. Lone parents are often wondering on how to be a successful single parent. When couple divorce each other they feel that they are getting out of bondage. However, couples with children also realize that they are getting into an even bigger struggle – single parenthood. Different research and surveys have confirmed the fact that children in lone families exhibited one or more negative personality traits. Financial Planning: Do not miss on the important things in life. Financial planning is very important for a single parent. Sit with a financial expert and chalk out a proper financial plan to support your child’s financial needs at important milestones in his life. Seek Help and Support: It is difficult to balance work and home together without any help. Try and create a support system of family, friends, and neighbor who can take care of the child when you are away. Ensure that your child is safe with the people you rely on. Do not pamper the child for reducing your guilt :Parents feel guilty about their divorce and pamper the child in order to overcome this guilt. Bring up your child in a restricted manner the way you would have done if you were you not single. If you give in to your child’s demand easily he will start taking you for granted. This will trigger negative behavior in your child. How to be a successful single parent depends also depends on your instincts. You are the best person to know your child’s likes and dislikes. Take care of your child’s likes and dislikes and be his soul mate.
