Parental alienation syndrome

Parental Alienation Syndrome, also known as PAS, is the worst divorce can do to a child. The phenomenon changes the whole personality of a child who otherwise would have been a much better person.

Sam loved his 6 years daughter very much. She used to stay with his ex wife after their divorce. Sam was very regular in visitations and made sure to do things that the child loved. His daughter loved the father equally and although they did not stay together they were quite fond of each other.

Sam was away from UK for 6 months on an official trip. When he came back he was shocked to see his daughter’s behavior towards him. She had totally changed and was not at all enthusiastic to meet him. Sam came to know that his ex-wife had a new boyfriend. Suddenly the mother’s boyfriend came very close to the child. In order to make this process easier the mother ensured that the child forgets her real father and starts disliking him.

Gradually the daughter was completely alienated from Sam and although he tried a lot but could not control the situation. Many men and women like Sam become victim of Parental Alienation Syndrome. Since most of the mothers get the custody of children and fathers are non residential parents, more men become the victims of PAS.

It is not simple to explain the phenomenon of PAS. Parents mostly use it as a weapon against the ex spouse for vengeance. Mothers alienate the children from fathers to hurt men and take revenge. It is a planned and malicious method of taking revenge from ex spouse by using children.

PAS has a number of dangerous effects on the personality of children. Children are made scapegoats to satisfy the ego of the parents. But unknowingly parents spoil their children’s future by alienating them from their parents. Children who are victims of PAS exhibit a number of negative personality traits. Here are a few effects of PAS on a child’s personality:

  1. The child develops an alienated personality. In the process of being alienated from the parent, the child also becomes aloof from the rest of the world. He or she likes to stay isolated and away from people.
  2. Children who have been subjected to Parental Alienation Syndrome are very sensitive and impulsive. They react impulsively at trivial things and become over sensitive.
  3. It is seen that PAS children lack concentration and indulge in destructive activities. As a result they are school dropouts and failure in life.
  4. Children subjected to parental alienation sometimes become too aggressive. They even go to the extent of destructing objects and physically hurting others.

Parental Alienation is a sin committed by parents for which law has no punishment. It completely changes the child’s personality towards negative. For a healthy development the child needs the company of mother and father both. Alienating the child from anyone parent results in tormented and incomplete childhood.

Parental Alienation Syndrome is highly detrimental for a child’s personality. Parents practicing this malicious strategy should stop this at once.
