Welfare benefits

Once a couple has taken the toughest decision of life that is to part ways from each other and stay individually after getting a legal divorce done, one of them get entitled for welfare benefits. It is not only benefit following their divorce, but it is an important of their divorce to look out for the various welfare benefits which are provided for a smooth livelihood of a single parent or single unemployed, skilled or unskilled citizens.

Welfare benefits are the benefits given by the state to its citizens to help them maintain their standard of living and meet the basic requirements of sustenance to live a life with respect and dignity. These benefits are usually given to people free of cost by the country who satisfy certain criteria which differ country wise. Such benefits may be given to disabled people; people of old age with no pensions or source of income; people who are sick, caregivers, single parents, etc.

With welfare benefits, the divorced spouses can get some financial help to support them after their mentally and physically intensive process of a divorce. Welfare benefits can be of great help and support if the couple lived on a low family income or if the spouse is otherwise financially not very well off. It may be of help if the spouse has child custody too.

Although the welfare benefits may prove to be of immense help to spouse who needs it, these are the benefits for which a formal procedure has to be followed. The welfare benefits also vary as we move from one state to another. Many of the countries offer some of the common welfare benefits which are focused below:

  1. Tax benefits: When separated from your spouse, you may try to know if any tax benefits exist for single persons. You can do this on the internet or from your local tax collection body and get advantage of it if your state has provisions for it.
  2. Unemployment allowance: Some countries offer an unemployment allowance to those who are single and earn less than a certain limit, which is set by the government agencies. So, check out if your state is having provisions for the same
  3. Credit balance and other benefits for children: Many states today offer free or discounted education for children of single mothers or fathers. Many more schemes giving allowances or free credit deposits for such children should also be availed. These allowances are more for the girl child especially to discourage female child killings.
  4. Child benefits: Many other child benefits are present in many countries such as United Kingdom. In these schemes parents of children receive a fixed amount per child for the development and needs of the same.

These are some of the few welfare benefits which are offered by governments of different countries. It is a myth that opting for them is some kind of stooping down, it is a privilege to use your countries wealth and it shows the country’s high self dependency.

As said earlier, the welfare benefits vary vastly from place to place. So it is advisable to consult a local government official or a legal expert to know more about welfare benefits being offered by you state.
