How to communicate with your divorce solicitor

Communicating with your solicitor can be tough at times, especially when you are facing the legal allegations for the first time in life and especially when it’s a divorce case. A divorce happens only, when the husband and wife do not want the marriage alliance to continue, rather it’s a kind of miscommunication between the two, for such long that they do not want to talk more, and then finally, you are simply left to talk with your lawyer.

It is actually very essential to talk to your solicitor, before any proceeding take place in the divorce case. The need arises when you have to take decisions and also, be prepared for the next step coming your way.

A few initiative have to be taken by the applicant to communicate, some of them are:

  1. Plan ahead: before setting up a meeting with your solicitor, jot down your questions, any documents you need to keep, ask for procedures and your active participation in the matter and also negotiate for the solicitor’s fees in the procedure.
  2. Be clear: talk clearly about your requirements and hopes out of the divorce, and how you want the divorce should end, it is important for the lawyer to understand each and every part, as to why the divorce is needed.
  3. Be respectful and calm: give due respect to your lawyer as he is the one representing or fighting for you in the court. Speak in a respectful manner so that he takes care of anything against us, in an amicable manner.
  4. Provide space: show full faith in your solicitor but make sure he does what is best for you and that if he does, is by your consent. You should give more space to his onions and your wishes to strike a balance.
  5. Ask for clarifications: ask your lawyer if you do not understand anything related to the proceedings, any document required in future or how much time will this take and what all can be negotiated.

Lastly, ask your lawyers to tell you the best way to contact them. It can be through phone, mail, messages and meeting. These are to be adjusted according to the schedule of the lawyer and the applicant. And when the meetings are fixed, the case should be discussed in a step by step method and pros and cons are discussed with the next thing coming upfront.

If an applicant chooses a capable lawyer and also provides the related document and clarifies what he expects out of the divorce, then half the battle is already won. Every solicitor is efficient provided he is given the right information at the earliest stage of the court proceedings and communicating things can make it all easier and better.
