What if we can’t agree ?

Incidences of separation, divorce and non agreement in couples have become a common trend in the when analyzing the married life of couples. To worsen the situation, non agreements among the couples is playing a vital role. According to a survey, almost 50% of marriages end in divorce in US, and the reasons are not all very different from each other; they are basically, non agreements over issues, infidelity and diverse career prospects. Moreover, when couples decide over divorce, they cannot settle it themselves due to the same reason as disagreements due to different interests and opinions.

When a couple cannot decide themselves over things, as negotiated in a divorce procedure, there are a few things you should look for. Given below is the list of such points:

1. A legal attorney, to enlighten you of all the laws and legal formalities as well as help you out drafting your divorce petitions and other documents.
2. A mediator, to calm things down so that you do not take decisions in a fit of passion. The mediator can be a mutual friend or a trustworthy neighbor.
3. A financial analyst or an expert accountant, to guide you through the labyrinth of making all the accounts of all the money you have spent and earn. He/she will also help you out divide the property and assets in a fair manner and can also help in fetching all the financial laws and updates.
4. Some family members of both the spouses, to pacify the over active emotions of the couple and help them stay calm and composed throughout the discussion. They can also help the spouse to make decisions which will affect him/her after the divorce.

By one or many such sittings, the couples can come up with some effectual solutions. Although if you cannot still agree on some or many of the points, the road has not ended for you but instead, you are sure to land up on a long path. In case of disagreements, the spouses, after having filed divorce petitions, can go to court for trials for their disputes. These disputes can be of financial nature, or any other disagreement. From here on, it will be the judges’ decision which will be binding regarding the dispute on both the parties. So in this case, you will have to be prepared for some surprises at some level. Although it will be wrong to say that the orders will be devastatingly surprising, because not only the judge will scrutinize all the evidences but will also take into the account any other matter which may be of concern before coming to a final judgment.

The court of law decides over things after looking at different aspects such as family history, income, expenditure, family support, employment, conduct of both the parties and only then, a decision is made. While going on trials can eat up a lot of time, but for some disagreements this is the best way to get rid of them and move ahead.
